If Your Laptop is Running Slow
Step 1: Restart Your Laptop
- Click on the Start Menu (Windows Logo) on your taskbar and select the Power icon
- Select Restart and wait for your laptop to reboot
Step 2: Close Unused Applications
- Open Task Manager – Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc or search Task Manager in the Start Menu

Review the apps at the top of the Processes tab & determine what app is using high resources

- Close unused Google Chrome tabs if you've got many open
- Close unused apps

Step 3: Free Up Disk Space
- Click Start > Settings > System > Storage
- Click Temporary files and select files to delete
- Empty the Recycle Bin – find the icon on your desktop, right-click it, and select Empty Recycle Bin
Laptop Won't Turn On
Step 1: Check Power Connection
- Plug in your laptop charger
- Look for the charging light (if it's off, the charger may not be working)
- Try a different power outlet
Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset
- Unplug the laptop charger
- Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds
- Plug in your laptop charger
- Press the power button again to turn it back on
Step 3: If the above don't work, then try the following
- Unplug the laptop charger
- Look for a small pin hole underneath the laptop as shown below
- Using a paper clip, press the reset button 5 times
- Plug in your laptop charger
- Press the power button to turn it back on
If Your Screen is Black but the Laptop is On
Step 1: Try Resetting the Display
- Press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B at the same time
- Wait a few seconds to see if the screen comes back
Step 2: Connect to an External Monitor (if available)
- Plug an HDMI or DisplayPort cable from your laptop to an external monitor
- If the external monitor works, your laptop may have an issue – report this to the Help Desk
Step 3: Force Restart Your Laptop
- Hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds until the laptop turns off
- Wait 5 seconds, then press the power button again to turn it back on
