Hi Everyone,
Apple released iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 yesterday (May 11), and we recommend updating your iPhones and iPads as soon as possible.
Why You Should Update
This update includes fixes for over 50 security vulnerabilities, many of which are serious. Here's a summary of what was addressed:
- Apps gaining unauthorized access — Fixed issues where a malicious app could bypass privacy settings or gain deeper access to your device than it should have
- Browsing security — Fixed around a dozen issues in Safari that could have allowed access to sensitive data or caused the browser to crash
- IP address tracking — Fixed a flaw that could have allowed someone to track your location through your IP address
- Screen privacy — Fixed an issue where someone with physical access to your device could view sensitive information during iPhone Mirroring
- Deleted notifications — Ensured that deleted notifications can no longer be recovered
- Image-related vulnerabilities — Fixed issues where opening a malicious image could cause your device to crash or behave unexpectedly
How to Update
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Tap Software Update
- Select Update Now
This update applies to iPhone 11 and later and iPad (various models from 3rd–8th generation and later). If you're unsure whether your device is eligible, please reach out to IT.
