Hello All,
Microsoft has introduced new Advanced Protection settings in Teams to help safeguard sensitive meeting content.
What’s Changing?
One of the key features is Screen Capture Prevention, which blocks screenshots and screen recordings during Teams meetings:
- Windows desktop: Attempts to capture the screen will show a black rectangle.
- Android: Users will see a message that screen capture is restricted.
- iOS: Screenshots and recordings are allowed, but live video feeds and shared content will not appear in the captured image or video—instead, profile pictures or static placeholders will show. You can still view shared content and video normally during the meeting. Full blocking for iOS is planned for a future update.
- Platforms that don’t support this feature at all will join meetings in audio-only mode.
Other Advanced Protection Options
Meeting organizers can enable these additional protections under Meeting Options → Advanced Protection:
-
Turn off copying and forwarding of meeting chat and transcripts
Prevents copying messages, links, transcripts, and AI-generated insights. Forwarding to Outlook is also disabled.
This applies to all attendees in the meeting (internal and external), though external attendees typically don’t have transcript access unless shared.
-
End-to-end encryption
Adds an extra layer of security for sensitive meetings. -
Prevent screen captures
Blocks screenshots and recordings (as described above). -
Detect sensitive content during screen sharing
Alerts organizers when someone shares content that may contain personal or sensitive information.
Key Details
- These features are available for Teams Premium customers.
- They are off by default and must be enabled per meeting by organizers or co-organizers.
